Foreword
Truck procurement seldom makes front-page news. Even when sizeable contracts are awarded, they seem to pass by almost unnoticed. Editors, by and large, tend to be more captivated by fancy weapon systems. After all, a truck is just a truck. Isn't it?
Not any more. Procuring trucks today is just as difficult as acquiring these headline-grabbing weapon systems.

ACMAT VLRA
Ateliers de Construction Mécanique de l'Atlantique ( ACMAT) developed its VLRA (Véhicule de Liaison, de Reconnaissance et d'Appui) in the late 1950s specifically for operations in the Sahara. Since then the French and other countries' armies have adopted the vehicle.
